Bundaberg Town
30 July 2008 | Bundaberg Port Marina
John and Shauna
Two days after arriving we are just now starting to lose our feelings of sleep deprivation and enjoy this place. The marina is great - good services, lovely landscaping and SOOO cheap relative to Sydney. We spent two nights at a hotel in town, which was just the recharge we both needed - a couple of nice restaurant meals and no boat tasks. We hired a cheap, rent-a-bomb car from the marina ($35/day) and drove up to The Town of 1770 today. This is a small holiday destination on Bustard Bay, inside Round Hill Head. It was a sleepy little hamlet when Shauna was there 20 or so years ago, but is rapidly heading to Noosa or Palm Beach status. The anchorage is shallow and not accessible to the likes of "Destiny" but there are plans afoot to dredge it and put in a yacht facility: if this happens it will be as Mecca since it is truly a beautiful spot.
Coming back we stopped at some farmers' stalls to buy some produce - local strawberries, avocados and potatoes are excellent quality and super cheap.
Tomorrow we are going to shake off the holiday mood and get into some maintenance - de-salting ropes and rigging from the passage, restocking the pantry and freezer and getting some engine maintenance finished. But we will definitely be here until next week - we feel like a rest!
We have put some Bundy pics in the gallery - have a look.
