Welcome to the Sea of Cortez

Welcome to the Sea of Cortez. Diamond Girl departed Cabo at 8 am this moring for a quick 6 hour trip to Bahina los Frailes. Bahina los Frailes is located on the Southern shore of a large out cropping into the Sea Of Cortez. It offers excellent protection from the strong winds from the North we are expecting most of this week. We caught the first of this wind on our way here and it extended the trip by an extra 3 hours. All of that in steep seas with the wind blowing right on the nose. We are in the Bay with about 18 other Ha Ha boats. It is doubtful many more will arive today or tomorrow as the winds are forcast to build to 25 knots tomorrow. The wave trains are different in the Sea of Cortez than say the Pacific Ocean. In the Pacific the waves do get big but they are usually far apart. Here the waves are not as big but very close together. That means that the boat goes over one and crashes in to the side of the next wave loosening all your teeth. We plan to be here until we want to leave. We have no schedule at this point. I took a swim just before sunset and it was wonderful. I can see the entire bottom of Diamond Girl the water is so clear. And it is warm! Nelda is putting together diner and we are planning on a quite night. It is amazing how tired you can get sailing even if you run the motor all day like we did today. Tomorrow we plan to get the dink out and go visit some of the other boats. It's fun to me the people you have been listening to on the radio for the last two weeks.
