Our Thanksgiving Turkey

Larry
Our Thanksgiving Turkey weighted in at just over 40 pounds! You think you've got leftovers. We are going to be eatting fish for the next two years but we are not complaining as Dorado or Mai Mai is a wonderful fish to eat. We had fished for 8 hours three days ago and not a bite. Today I picked a lure that was really good looking and nada, squat, zero, nothing. So I tell Nelda all the fish have gone South for the winter and she says "try this preaty red lure". Why would anything eat a red lure but we had to put on something so I said ok. I hadn't even stoped the line from spooling off the reel and this fish was on. It was didferent than the other fish we caught, it is about twice as big and you could tell by the way it was takeing line off the reel instead of us/Nelda (I was moral support) bringing it in. We were sailing at the time and I did assist by furling the jib and slowing the boat. Nelda did all the heavey work bringing it in. She is a real pro! We have developed a kin d of system in landing fish after the blood bath we experienced on the first fish. Then we used a gaff in the gills to bring it on board. Well since 80% of a fishes blood resides in its gills they bleed all over everything. Now we (me) get down on the swim step and I convince the fish to swim into a Ikea bag. Have you ever heard of the fish whisperer, its allot harder than whispering to horses. Your not eating them. After it is in the bag we lift it into the boat. The really cool thing is Nelda then filets it in the bag. No blood at all! So after all this I get to use the pretty red thing and we drag it for another two hours and not a bit. Nelda is the fisherwoman on Diamond Girl. We are in San Evaristo tonight and probably for the next few days. It is hard to discribe how beautiful it is here, We are in a natural harbour that is cut out of solid rock. There are huge mountains the encircle the bay and the small fishing village here. I say small as it has maybe 20 families. We haven't had a chance to go into the village yet so that is a subject for a later post. We are in this bay with about 6 other boats, most from Canada. We did a little rowing today and are going snorkling tomorrow. We did have fresh, (two hours old) dorado fish tacos for lunch and we are having fresh shrimp tonight over white rice. It may sound strange but some turkey tomorrow would be nice but that is not going to happen. It will be some sort of sea food tomorrow or Spam and I think there is a law against eatting Spam on holidays. We are planning on finishing off the papya tomorrow, We keep waiting for it to go bad in the frig but it stays better than anything else we put in there. Thanks to all those who sent recipes on how to use papya. Do you have any for Dorado? Thats it for tonight. The sea is calm and the wind is low. The sun has just set over the huge mountains and since ther is no moon tonight there will be billions of stars. Did I say this is a wonderful place? Happy Thanksgiving to all.
