Greetings from La Paz. Tonight Nelda and I wan t to welcome a very special new reader, Aronld Skimmerhorn of West Salem Ohio. It 's a log story but Arnold is one swell guy, just ask him. Today we were all ready to get a slip in the Marina de La Paz but it is Sunday and no one works on Sunday. It is reminisent of when we were kids. So after we tried the marina office we found the local school was having a carnival like the ones that we used to have in grade school to raise money for kids to continue their education. Continuing education down here is going from the sixth grade to the seventh grade. Most kid only get a six grade education for lack of money. The carnival was allot of fun with boths set up and lots of handmade items and food. They also had an auction. We noticed that one of the items was a guitar. It sold for almost 2,500 pesos or about $200 dollars. Well guess what we had on the boat and it was looking for a home? Here is the story of our guitar; about 3 months ago we attended a benifit concert for Dennis. Dennis is legally blind but as very narrow tunnel vission. His goal was to sail to France. At this concert his freinds had a silent action and we bought the guitar that he had played as he was the performer at the concet. The photo above is of Deninis and his girl friend at the concert. Well now we own a 12 string guitar and we have all sorts of plans to learn to play it. Unfortunatel the boat seems to be getting smaller and smaller as we just have too much stuff. There is just no where to put it and have any living space so it is either get some of the stuff off the boat or buy a bigger boat and that's not happening. So we took the dingy back out to Diamond Girl and picked up the guitar along with 6 pairs of jeans and some sweaters. We obviously didn't pack well for the weather we will be having and it does get chilly here and they sold the jeans for the kids as well. The guitar was an unexpected surprise at the auction as instead of one they had two! So Dennis wil never know how happy he made some kids in La Paz and some budding musician. You hear us talk allot about the wind, well here is why. It is strong this time of year and demands your attention if you are to be safely saiing or anchored. Today the wind piped up to 25 knots out of the North and the waves are big even in the anchorage in La Paz. We had several boats drag their anchors here today. One right behind us. It was and Island Packet and it drug right into a dock in a new marina that is under construnction. The good news is it didn't go ashore or into rocks, the bad news is it was pinned side ways to the wind on this dock. There was notheing the owner could do other than put out fenders and watch 3 to 4 foot waves pound his boat. Finailly just before sunset he got a panga to pull the boat off the dock and he again came out by us and anchored. Hopefully a little better than the last time. We are pretty well set and the conditions are no where near as bad as in Bahi Ballandra three weeks ago. We probably won't sleep real well but we will be ok. Tomo rrow we hope to be in the marina.
