This is the first year Nelda and I have not been home for Christmas and we really missed our family. We are not alone. There are four other couples on our dock that find themselves in the same situation. The girls put together a round robin eat, drink and be merry party where we went from boat to boat and had a mini party at each stop. It was wonderful. We had a great time seeing everyone elses boats and how they are copeing with living in very limit space. All the boats are about the same size as Diamond Girl, about 37 to 40 feet and they were are very attractive. It was just a great time. Today we planned to take it easy and go to the pool which we still haven't been to while we have been at Coasta Baja. We got slightly derailed when about mid morning I started looking at some mast steps that I want to instal. Well that lead to Micheal comming over and asking if I was going up the mast. I said no but now that he mentioned it I would love to get some pointers on how to do it. I got out the Mastclimber I have purchased and the next thing I know I am inching my way to the top of a 50' mast suspened by two rather small peices of nylon strapping material. Nelda is on the safty line and up I go. Now this process does take some co-ordination and is not quite as easy as they make it look on the video. But with a little practice I found myself at the top. Wow what a view! I am always amazed at how far up you seem to be when you are looking down. I it seamed like I could see for miles which I could. I didn't do much at the top other than look around and take a few pictu res as I didn't take any tools and didn't really think I would get there anyway. Coming down was a little more difficult as it required more concentration. I finailly made it down and the guy next door, Dean, wanted to go to the top of his mast so the entire process started over again. He inched his way up and inched his way down and it only took about three hours. So both Dean and I earned our "Mast Monkey Merit Badges" today. By now it is about 3pm so the pool is looking like it might not happen when Micheal says he can show me how to tap the screws for the mast steps. That sounds good to me so that's what we work on for the next two hours. In short our Christmas day was very busy indeed.
