We finailly left Baja for mainland Mexico today. We have really enjoyed our stay even though it has been cold the last two weeks. I finally broke our the ski cap Nelda had squirled away and ski gloves. It must have been 50 degrees! The trip from Los Frailes to Mazatlan is 162 miles. I calculated it would take us about 33 hours to make the crossing. The last thing we want to do is arrive in the dark as Mazatlan is a busy port. So we started early. THe first three houors were rough and we motored. Nelda caught a cold two days ago so she has been on restricted dutie. Talk about stuborn. She really doesn't like following directions and I thought she was a 3 year old with the faces she mad when I made her take some Nyquil last night. Se almost stomped her feet! You woud have thought I was giving her Multiplaqs. About sunup everything settled down and this is one of the nicest days sailing we have had on the entire trip. It is sunny and warm, mid 70's, the wind is light consitant but enough we are saiing at 5 knots. And the sea is realtively calm. It just doesnt get much better than this. Of course that means we are probalbey inf or some really weird weather once it gets dark. There is no way to get accross with out sailing all night. Even leaving at 3am only gets us there about noon the next day. So we sill enjoy this while it lasts. The photo today is of Santas Work Shop. One of the boats in Costa Baja had a 3 year old on board and Christmas eve he kept running around with a short plasitc tube that plastice fish come in pretending it was a light saber. Apparently he had had a light saber at one time. Nelda found some pipe insulation and with a little bleck electricans tape for a handle and some red and yellow rescure tape for the ends we had light sabers. I played with them for hours chasing Nelda around the boat! Yea. Well our 3 year old was thrilled as were his parents as the plasice tube was dangerous. It is amazing how creative you can be with the things you have at hand.
