On To Tahiti

Larry
Nelda and I left Rangeroa behind today. We left about 7 am at low tide and gave the bottom a little bump just as we crossed the pass. It makes your heart stop just a little but no damage done and we continued on our way. We have both become quite partial to night crossings as they are a wonderful time to reflect on life in general. It is hard to describe the getal rockig motio of the ocean particularly at night when you can't see the waves and swells. It's just like the Johnny Rivers song "Swaying to the music". We have half a moon tonight and just a few of the average squalls. We had one nice rain and may have another but it looks like a quite night. We really look foreword to the rain as the boat gets covered in salt spray over a day or two and it it is really hard on your skin. You have to continually guard against sitting on cushions that are covered in salt crystals as you can get a nasty pailful rash. Todays pic is what a typical squall looks like just as the sun is going down. Our destination is the island of Tahiti. We plan to arrive some time tomorrow afternoon and anchor out at Venus point. Then we have reservations in the marina for a few days. That will be nice as we have been anchored out or underway for almost 6 weeks straight. Tonight we are using a combination of the motor with the sails. Since we want to arrive during day light tomorrow we need to maintain 7 knots. The sails just need a little help to keep up that speed. We did catch two tuna today! They are the first ones we have caught on the trip and we ate one for dinner and froze the other one. Nelda is looking forward to having a little better selection of groceries to choose from in Papeete.
