How many canoes can you see?

Greetings from the public warf, (proouced worf) or as sailors say "quay", which is pronounced "key". It's really what we call a dock in Idaho. We arrived in downtown Papeete after a pleasant stay on Moorea. We avoided a big storm that went through the anchorage on Moorea last Sunday night. Many boats dragged their anchors and played bumper boats. Damage was "minor" which on a sailboat means it is less than 10 grand. There was plenty of finger pointing. One guy that caused considerable "minor" damage on several boats stated, "I'm just glad on one was killed or boats sank. I can't be bothered by "minor" damage." He isn't being invited over for cocktails! Of course it all took place in the dead of night in a driving rain storm. We did have some excitement of our own when we arrived in Papeete yesterday. As we entered the harbor the Harbor Control told us to stay hard to the port (left). Then he said more to port and finally he told us just to back up next a large freighter. If y ou look at todays pic you will see we arrived right at the start of the once a year canoe races. Canoe racing is big sport here and we would have probably been beaten to death with canoe paddles if we would have screwed things up. As it turns out we had one of the best seats in the house to watch the start.
