Greetings from Tahiti As some of you may remember I had problems with my arm coming across the Pacific. There has been no improvement and Nelda and I have decided it is time to go home and see what is what's up. We have hired a delivery capitan to take Diamond Girl back to the Northwest. We are planning to resume our cruising next summer in the inside passage between the Canadian mainland and Vancouver Island. We are going to keep Diamond Girl somewhere near Victoria this winter. Thanks to all of you that have followed our adventures. It was 9 months ago we left San Diego. Although we have sailed for 30 some years, until then we had never sailed at night or sailed more than a dozen miles from shore. We had never sailed out of sight of land and had never been to a foreign country (Canada doesn't count as a foreign country). We now have sailed nearly 6,000 miles in 7 months, at one point more than 1,300 miles from land, sailed nonstop for 29 days and nights, crossed the equator and can say hello, please, thank you and where are the bathrooms in both Spanish and French! It has been quite a ride and I am so proud of Nelda. Offshore sailing is not second nature to her and watching her you would never know it. She did a wonderful job not only making my life comfortable but sharing the sailing duties. I could not have wished for more. Our original plan was to sail to the Marquesas and then to Hawaii and back to Canada. We sailed an extra 1000 sea miles farther west with stops in the Tuomotus and then on to Tahiti. During our time in Tahiti we have enjoyed the company of our three daughters, one boyfriend and our granddaughter Lilly. We have made countless new friends in the cruising community. Not to bad for two people that had never sailed at night until last year on October 24th (that was Nelda's birthday present). For those of you we met in Mexico that are contemplating this trip next year, both Nelda and I encourage you to do it. While the passage season this year was extremely rough on everyone we have talked to, we would certainly do it. The rewards are certainly worth the effort at sea. Best wishes to all of you that have followed our adventure and hopefully we will be back at it in Canada next year about this time. Best wishes Larry and Nelda
