First Lady comes first

Once we were back in the Pacific, we plotted a course to Isla Gorgona, Colombia, just SW of the city Buenaventura. This island used to be a PRISON from 1967 to 1984, similar to Alcatraz. The island was established in 1985 as a National Park. Now it is a presidential retreat for the president of Colombia and an eco resort (hey, they still have a latter rooms there). It is heavily guarded by the Armada and a special police troop when the president or family members are visiting.
Our arrival coincided with the visit of the First Lady and daughter at the island. The Armada boys came over to us immediately and tied us up to a buoy as the anchorage was very deep. But we were told that we would not be permitted to go ashore for security reasons. The onshore police detachment requested over VHF all our personal and boat particulars and again we were advised to stay away from the island.
No Problem, we were just happy to watch the action and enjoying the scenery.
