Hangout for yachts

Next stop some 70 nautical miles further is Cabedelo. Because we arrived late evening we anchored in the river at a designated anchoring spot close to the ferry dock. Some dubious characters, probably squatterers, had a fire going by the docks and we could smell some food being cooked. I wasn't so sure about the safety of this anchorage and was glad to move on in the morning. A few miles up the river was the famous hangout of the Frenchman Philippe Fessard, a previous sailor who had settled here. He provided dockage, mooring balls, internet, laundry service and cold beer for the cruising community at his Jacare Yacht Village. We stayed a few days getting to know some nice people on other yachts.
