learning experiences - gas
With daily cooking, boiling water for teas, coffees and washing/showering we use approx. 4.5kg of Butane or 3.9kg of Propane (we have both on board) every two weeks. Currently we've budgeted for 1.5kg per week (Propane) so we are slightly over budget and will need to reflect this going forward.
Proportionately gas is cheaper per kg in larger bottles, but unfortunately our gas locker does not allow this. Given that we are not planning to sail during the winter months (we are not hardened sailors) we intend to purchase a larger bottle of Propane and leave it on the fore deck to save some money. Propane has a lower freezing point than Butane so is ideal for the winter months.
