Porto Cervo
At the centre of the Costa Smeralda lies Porto Cervo, one of the world's most luxurious resorts where the rich and famous come to indulge in a spot of shopping and/or dining at fine restaurants.
The resort is staged over several levels with many squares, adjoining streets and alleys with signage directing you to the most prestigious fashion houses and exclusive jewellers etc.
It's a shopper's paradise, just as long as the credit card limit is unlimited! Brands include Dolce & Gabbana, Versace, Valentino, Prada, Cartier, Gucci, Prada, Loius Vuitton and Rolex to name just a few. Security guards are present on almost every corner. There's even a Rolls Royce and Maserati showroom although it's not as posh as it may seem especially when a 'grockle' train pulled up right outside the Rolls Royce showroom - that lowered the tone a tad. lol.
For us a berth here for the night is financially possible at this time of year on a 'no frills' basis (no mooring attendant, no water, electric or disposing of rubbish) and costs in the region of€65. In peak season however, one night is in the region of €350! It's the second most expensive marina in the world (Capri in Italy is no.1 and Portofino is no.3 according to Luxuo, the world's top 10 most expensive marinas) with the average daily mooring fee in the region of €2500 for a super-yacht. However at this time of year (it's too early in the season) the super-yachts and famous people are somewhat lacking leaving just the busloads of tourists, like us visiting to see what all the fuss is about.
Whilst we had an enjoyable couple of hours walking around Porto Cervo, we concluded that we'd rather have spent our 'bus fare' on a few drinks at our local bar, 'Destriero' instead.
