The adventures of Yacht Flirtie

"Hi, we are sailing yacht Flirtie's crew, Bruce and Caroline. Welcome to our blog.

Ithaka Island, Ormos Exo Aetou

You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round... in a boat baby 'round, round!

Our latest journey took us back over to Ithaka and along the eastern coast where we popped in and out of several anchorages along the way. Unfortunately though, every one of them resembled a car park and it was only mid morning! We weren't prepared to hang around to see the numbers change so continued onwards past the port of Vathy and straight towards a beach at the far end of a natural bay.

It turned out to be a peaceful anchorage which we shared with just three other yachts at one point, however with the surrounding mountains it suffered from katabatic winds which made Flirtie swirl around in circles.

There wasn't much ashore apart from a few properties sat along the coastal road and just one inviting caravan-like taverna surrounded by olive trees and very popular with the locals.

much needed respite from the swirling around at anchor... honest!

Our journey so far to the islands has confirmed that we need to return early or late season in order to avoid the sheer volume of yachts that are now present. Instead we'll now look towards the Greek mainland and keep away from the popular 'honey pot' areas.

Total distance this season: 691.66 nautical miles
