The adventures of Yacht Flirtie

"Hi, we are sailing yacht Flirtie's crew, Bruce and Caroline. Welcome to our blog.

Greek mainland, Galaxidi to Corinth town

When we arrived in Galaxidi to moor stern-to, we misjudged the distance from the harbour wall and ended up paying out a total of 80m of chain onto the sebed. All that remained in the anchor locker was four chain links, spliced to a 2m length of rope that was attached to a strong point. In hindsight we probably should have tried a second time to judge a more appropriate distance off the wall as it took time to retrieve it. As they say, practice makes perfect!

The day turned out to be a 37 mile gentle motorsail to Corinth where we tried our luck at fishing and happened to spot a pod of dolphins in the distance. A brief visit into the town was necessary as we had a parcel to collect from the DHL service point which contained watermaker membranes and washers. The Corinth is closed on a Tuesday (from 6am to 6pm) for maintenance to the limestone walls and dredging so rather than rush through we decided to spend the night at anchor in the commercial harbour and booked our transit through the canal for the following morning.

The commercial harbour offered a choice of moorings: along the quayside wall; in a small harbour; or the anchorage. All of these options enabled easy access to the town centre however we had chosen to anchor and despite there being no wind, swell entered the harbour which made for a rolly and disturbed night. Next time we'll try one of the alternative options.

Total distance this season: 470.86 nautical miles
