5/8/10, Saturday

10 May 2010
Very good day for Northward travel, wind and tide were with us and we averaged 5 1/2 kts. Got gas and water at Oriental Marina, we looked for a place to anchor in Oriental but it was too crowed. We went to Pierce Creek just East of Oriental and found the same, no anchored boats but shallower water than indicated on the charts and lots of development of the shore. Next it was on to Orchard Creek a bit further East where we found less development but less water than indicated, supposed to be 4 feet at low tide and found 3 feet at mid tide. There is only a tidal range in this area of 1 1/2 feet so we anchored here in a very protected spot with an OK beach for the Pep.
