going downhill

clear, warm, waves 2 m to starboard, wind coming north at 20 knots
boom vang tears away from boom. Charlie out on deck again and it is very rough. Of course we have the jack lines, super duper life vest and double lines never unhooked. He's doing amazing!! dinghy breaks loose on one side and rips - cut it away and off it goes alone into the night. Fuel gone, 40 miles from Isla Mujeres. Using satellite for emails, but not sure if they are going through. Boat very solid and sturdy, drop anchor in 124 feet to wait out the night. VHF too far away. ask a couple of ships for fuel, but no go. Use Spot to send emergency message (although it is not an SOS situation) to our contacts only. ask to notify Coast Guard to notify whoever to get us some fuel.
