Bimini, Bahamas
20 February 2011
Easy days – continued cleaning up DreamCatcher, repairing what we broke on the crossing (don’t even ask!), and taking naps. Lobster fisherman stopped by the boat and Bruce bought two large tails for $10 – didn’t need the whole dozen they offered at $70 (since I am still anti-seafood!). Alice Town is small (Alice Kilgo – this pic was taken just for you!!), and the people very friendly. Sunday morning we walked to Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church for worship services, and afterwards enjoyed lunch at Captain Bob’s. The population of the Bimini islands is approximately 1,800 – the two islands are long and narrow (North Bimini and South Bimini) separated by a navigable channel, with tourism as their primary business. Not many sailboats here – primarily big sport fishing boats. We purchased Bahamian phone cards as we are now are officially phoneless and also without internet connections. We are blessed right now to be anchored close enough to a hotel and be able to pick up their wifi – PTL!! In the morning we plan to set sail for Honeymoon Harbor on the east side of Gun Cay, with a probable Tuesday crossing of the Great Bahama Bank.
