Royal Island to Meeks Patch

16 March 2011
Another long day of sailing (just kidding) – we motored 45 minutes to the west side of Meeks Patch and anchored off a sandy beach. Hiking around the island we found a coconut grove and the Great White Coconut Hunter scored! Bruce demonstrated his superior survival skills by opening a coconut with his bare hands and the assistance of a cast away sink found in the area. We brought five back to the boat (ranging from green to sprouting coconuts so I could sample five of twelve of the varying degrees of ripe coconuts). The sprouting dessert coconut is clearly in last place according to my taste test! Will keep you posted on further testing. We are enjoying the fresh coconut for breakfast each morning and for snacks. Bruce is experimenting with coconuts and dark rum – he gives it two thumbs up. Once again we were anchored with three other boats and when we got up in the morning they were all gone! We are wondering if they are living in a different time zone, or did we say something wrong???
