Blackpoint to Rudder Cut Cay
03 May 2011
Groundhog day. Sea conditions and sailing same as yesterday until Galliot Cut, furled the genoa then motorsailed through narrow channels past David Copperfield’s island, Musha Cay. Beautiful beaches and homes dotted the island’s landscape – the guidebook reports that he purchased this island and four neighboring cays for an estimated $50M. The magic business pays very well!! We anchored off of Rudder Cut Cay and dinked over to the channel where Bruce picked up two large conchs while Elaine and I drifted through the cut chasing Bruce as he went by. We beachcombed on Guana Cay, picking up shells and coral pieces. If you have noticed in our blog, there are many cays with the same name in the Bahamas. Rudder Cut Cay was at one time owned by an insurance magnate, but he was indicted and convicted by Florida of insurance fraud and the cay was repossessed and is private property with no access. We were considering going ashore, but were greeted by two guard dogs on the beach. Oh well. Bruce settled for using the above area to clean his conch’s and last coconut from Meeks Patch (extra points for readers who remember where this was!). Bruce prepared conch salad for Elaine, but the finishing touch of tomato will have to wait till George Town.
