Middle Bight Cay to Lisbon Creek, South Bight

23 March 2012
We jib sailed approximately seven miles to the South Bight on Andros, taking a well marked channel into the creek where we hoped to find a very calm anchorage (for two weeks we have had rolly/rocky anchorages). We slowly made our way in towards the only anchored sailboat (turns out this is Norman’s boat, is a center boarder and only draws 3’8” – NEVER ASSUME!), which was up river from the commercial dock. Well, we found one – AGROUND, with a falling tide! But at least it was calm and in sand. Sigh. We spent the day reading and waiting for the tide. We should have remembered that the enemy of good is better and stayed where we were. But noooooo, we had to try and get off at high tide (9:30 pm) which we did, then promptly ran aground again (think ski slope moguls which we couldn’t see in the dark, no, we are not going to try this again!). So, we were home for the night – between 1:00-2:00 am we started the slow fall over to port (it’s like sleeping on a 30 degree incline). The fun part is as you are trying to go to sleep various items in the boat are starting their sliding journey creating odd noises that drive you crazy! Oh well. We’ll try again tomorrow morning at high tide.
