San Miguel de Allende
12 October 2016
October 7 - 12, 2016 San Miguel (a World Heritage Site) is located in the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico and is home to a very large expat community. It was “discovered” by foreign artists (many of whom were US soldiers studying on the GI Bill) and has since attracted a significant amount of foreign retirees, artists, writers and tourists. While there we did a foodie walking tour (8 restaurants!), a historical walking tour, attended the community Church (met a lovely couple – Ashley and Max), had drinks in their hillside home and went with them to the local Tuesday outside market, I sketched with the San Miguel sketching group (yay!) and we enjoyed the old city views from our AirBnB studio apartment located in a 300 year old home near the city center. Lots of restaurants (including a fabulous panaderia with baguettes and pineapple/almond bread) and wonderful shops – and fresh, hot churros!! YUM!
