Gone to Potts...again

23 July 2009 | Potts Lagoon, West Cracroft Island
WX: a.m. clouds/p.m. clearing, temp 75, wind NW 5-15
We left Lagoon Cove about 1300 and, just like before, headed down to Potts Lagoon. Gary and Deva had set their shrimp pot outside Lagoon Cove and they scored the Mother Lode. Something like 90 shrimp of various sizes. When we got to Potts we weren't surprised to find we had lots of company. There were half a dozen other boats in Potts. No question the busy season has arrived. We could only think longingly of last month, when we'd often had these anchorages all to ourselves. The crabbing was just as good as before, however. We used the heads of the shrimp as bait and the crabs definitely approved. We had to throw back quite a few perfectly legal crabs to stay under our limit.

The northwesterly has returned. In the afternoon it was gusting through the anchorage, so we knew it was really blowing out in Johnstone Strait. This was confirmed when we got a text message from John, letting us know that Night Music had made it to Forward Harbour. They'd had a wild sleigh ride in 30 knots of wind, surfing down waves at 8 knots under main alone. Better them than us!
