Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo!

04 August 2009 | Lund, BC Mainland
WX: CAVU, temp 85, wind NW 5-10
Oh, my gawd. We came down through Desolation Sound today. What a zoo. Crossing from the south end of Lewis Channel to Sarah Point, there was not a moment when we couldn't count 50-60 boats in sight. This compared to when we arrived in June and the same vista would show NO boats. None. Zero. We kept asking ourselves why ANYONE would chose to take their vacation and come up here the first two weeks of August.

We called Beach Gardens, down at Grief Point, to see if we could get moorage there. Sorry, full up. Then we called Lund. We should have read between the lines. Yeah, they could "probably fit us in." We contemplated just going down to someplace like Grace Harbour and anchoring but pushed on. MIS-take. Lund is an absolutely INSANE. Boats rafted three and four deep. UN-freakin'-believable. NEVER again will we subject ourselves to cruising in August. We don't NEED TO!

We have reservations in Pender Harbour tomorrow night. From there we're thinking of going down to Vancouver and spending a couple of days at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club's downtown station. Ironically, weekends are a good time to go there since a lot of their members leave for the weekend and they often have lots of room. Stay tuned for details.
