Dolphins and Bears

31 July 2015 | Sutherland Bay, Drury Inlet
WX: CAVU after Onshore Flo, temp 75, wind W 20-30 (afternoons)
Leaving Shawl Bay, our objective was Sutherland Bay, at the western end of Drury Inlet. Not far out of Shawl, we picked up an escort of a dozen or so Pacific Dolphins that stayed with us for nearly 45 minutes, playing in our bow- and quarter wakes. They weren't camera shy, either, as evidenced by the photo above. We also shot some video which we'll get up on Facebook if we ever get someplace with enough bandwidth to handle it.

By the time we got to Sutherland, the Northwesterly Hurricane had shown up. The wind, coupled with Onshore Flo in the mornings, kept us pretty much bottled up in the cabin where the only entertainment, if you can call it that, was watching the Mariners lose a couple of more games.

On the last morning there, a solitary black bear wandered down to the beach and spent a long time turning over the rocks and munching on whatever tasty morsels he could find beneath them. He had his back to us most of the time and a picture of a bear's butt looks mostly like a black blob--not very exciting. By being patient, we finally got a shot or two, along with a bit of video that, again, will have to wait until we get back to some semblance of civilization.
