Meeting Phanthom at Chrisfield
11 May 2018 | Chrisfield Harbour
Sunny & Calm, really?
Today, my brother Dan left to fly back to Vancouver Island. It was great sharing our cruising lifestyle with him. He is a high energy guy, but was able to kick back and relax on the boat. Now unfortunately, it is back to home and reality. I guess that's why we love this gypsy life style so much!
We cruised out of Norfolk passing lines after line of ships. The U S Navy has over 600 ships, as well as the Marines, Army, and even air force having their own.
We headed up the Chesapeake Inlet with a plan to go to Tangier Island. This town is frozen in time, having no vehicles, and is barely above Sea Level. 25 % of the island disappears at high tide!
On the way there, our buddy Herb texted is that he was a few miles from Tangier Island, so we went past it to Chrisfield Harbour. This town is famous for it's oyster fishery. Back in the day, a rail line was built to this town, just to ship fresh oysters to the eastern seaboard.
Herb had arranged for an invitation for us to attend an Emergency Response Team function at the marina. Herb was a hospital administrator when he was in the army, and I was an ERT member for 30 years at work. We met a number of firemen and ambulance drivers at the outing. Good guys and gals in that lot!
It had been a long day, so turned in at 10:00 and passed out!
Picture today is of Susan, Dan and Me at Portsmouth.
