Long run to Annapolis
12 May 2018 | Annapolis yacht basin
Nice day, then, high winds, lightning, torrential rain in evening
This morning we raised the anchor at 7:00 and left Chrisfield with our friend Herb, following in his boat, Phantom. The wind was blowing around 15 mph throwing up about 2 foot whitecaps. As we turned around the first buoy, I saw lines of black, blue or white crab trap marker buoys sprinkled in the channel. They were hard to distinguish, being hidden by waves and poor light. I avoided them, but not Herb. He caught either the first or second one in the channel, and stalled his engine. Nothing to do but turn around, and get a diver to cut off the line. Last year 23 million pounds of crab was pulled out of Chesapeake Bay. Thats an awful lot of traps!
We arrived at Annapolis yacht Basin after 10 hours of cruising, and tied up to a mooring buoy.
Why not alongside, or anchor you ask. Alongside is 3.00 a foot plus power, and mooring is 35.00. There is virtually no swinging room for an anchorage, so your options are limited. Susan is becoming a mooring maistro, picking up the mooring eye first try.
It was a pretty good day after the ugly first 2 hours. However tonight is high winds, and lots of lightning.
