Today, I was waiting at 0830 at the Parliment Office to get tickets for a tour of the Parliment. Lots of tourists here now, and tickets are gone by 10:00. It is the last chance to see the Parliment for 10 years, as they are closing the building for a Huge renovation! I can not imagine what kind of work will take Ten years, but that is the schedule. Perhaps my boys can come here as electricians on the project.
The Parliment is moving into the West Block which was just renovated, and the Senate is moving to the former train station down the street, which has been under renovation for 2 years for them. Nothing but the best for our politicians!
After the Parliment tour, we saw a Carribean parade kicking off a huge block party!
We then went to the Canadian Mint. It is a really cool place to visit. They make all types of special medallions there. For the Olympics in Vancouver, the largest medals ever presented were created. All Canadian military medals are struck there as well as special purpose medalions, and currency. Day to Day coinage is minted in Winnipeg.
I scored a few goodie points as there was a medalion there called "Cellebration of Love", with hearts with a key going through it, and roses on it. I could not resist and now Susan owns one!
One of the displays is a solid gold bar weighing 28 pounds and worth $650,000.00. You are able to pick it up, and Susan now wants one for the on board gym!
A few years back, they minted 7 - one million dollar coins as an experiment. That is, there was one million dollars of gold in each coin; and they were sold for... 7 million each! They were about 1 meter across. One Arab shiek purchased a coin to be a coffee table. If you got it flaunt it!
