Scuba time
21 June 2018 | Rideau Ferry Harbour
Sunny, 18 degrees
This morning I had a few parts to order for the engines, and clean up after yesterdays filter change day.
Then Susan and I cast off lines and went.......1 mile to drop the anchor. I had to go under the boat with my scuba gear to change the sacrificial anodes, and did not want to dive in the marina because 1. Its fully of weeds 2. The electrical system here is scary, and you have to be cautious of stray currents in the water. That can paralyze you, and then you drown 3. The minute other boats saw me in scuba gear, I would be working all day!
You have to change your anodes from Zinc in salt water, to Magnesium in fresh water. That is because of a phenomenom call Nobility. With your electric system in water it becomes a ground. Something has to be sacrificed (eaten away) in order for your electrical system to work. You do not wants that to be your rudder, propeller, or shaft, so you put something "softer" in the nobility scale so that gets dissolved over time.
I was pretty pooped after 40 minutes working underwater. There was a very slight current, but that means you have to wrap some part of your body around a boat part to work. Phew!
This evening we went out with our friends to an Italian place for dinner, then to a community band concert in the park. Just like old times for me, as I used to play trumpet in a community bands.
My friend Kurt knows everyone around here, as this is where he grew up. The town crier congratulated us on completing our voyage.
