Sailing downwind

80 degrees and muggy
We left Trenton in 20 mph winds blowing up the channel. The beauty of the canals is that there are no waves, just ripples. So going at an engine speed of 5 mph, we are doing 7! Normally I am ecstatic when this happens, but when you are parking your boat along a lock wall each 1/2 hour life gets interesting. The first couple of locks involved some fancy maneuvers to insure I did not spin 180 degrees in the lock. It happens, and apparently happened yesterday at lock 2. To reduce sail area, I opened all the windows on the stern, allowing the wind to blow through. That worked well and the next 4 locks went without incident. Susan was wearing a dress on the bow, as it is super muggy. She had to keep her wits about her so she did not do a Marylin Monroe skirt lift as she reached for the lock tie cables!
The photo today is going under the Trenton bridge entering the Trent Severn Canal.
