Stoney Lake Visit

07 September 2018 | Stoney Lake
After fixing the generator and doing various boat repairs, it was time for some days off and a change of scenery. My friend Rene and his wife Antje are at their lake house for the summer. I have known Rene since I was about 5 years old! He and Antje came to pick us up and off to the lake we went. She had supper ready for us when we got to Stoney Lake and we had a good visit that evening. The next day, the ladies wanted to go to Bobcaygeon to visit a well known store called Bigleys. They were a tad disapointed that this store had become well known, and jacked their prices accordingly. They both left empty handed.
On our way back, Rene, who is a knowledgeable birder, and naturalist, took us to see a rock face on the side of the highway. It was a cut away portion of rock and limestone. What made it interesting is that the limestone on top is from the period of the glaciers melting and covering this area in water. This became the Ordovichian Sea, 500 million years ago. It is capping granite from the Canadian Shield that is 2.5 Billion years old!
So the picture you see of Rene and I, has our bottoms and arms seperated by 2 Billion years. Additional pictures are in the gallery

This morning I helped Rene attach some shelves from his old kitchen in his workshop. Now he can spend the fall filling them. Susan and Anje went out for a nature walk, and prepared a great lunch. After that we went for a spin around the lake in their runabout. It was a perfect afternoon for a boat ride!

We are back on the boat this evening, a plan to do 4 or 5 locks tomorrow. Heavy rain is in the forecast for Monday, so we shall park somewhere for that day. Cruising on the rain is OK, but locking can get pretty soggy!
