Anchoring surprises

07 September 2019 | Denson Island anchorage
John Robin | 35 degrees - 95
Leisurely start today, and then did a few chores before pulling the anchor. The bay is so quiet, and serene, we could almost stay another day. Got rolling around 10 anticipating around 40 mile day. It was real scenic heading down the Tennessee with very little barge traffic. Since it was such a quiet day, I asked Susan if she would drive this afternoon, and I started installing a new stereo I purchased in Nashville. I wanted to hook up speakers to the bridge, as we are up there 90% of the time driving. The new stereo has a remote, so we can control it while up top. Of course, now we dont have anything to play our cassette tapes in. Susan has informed me that I better download some of the music that was on the tapes!
Of course, while cruising nothing goes as planned. This part of the river is 9 feet lower than normal. Therefore, each bay we tried to get into did not have enough water in the entrances for us to pass through. We had to go an extra 18 miles before finding a spot for the night. I will revise my planning data for the next few days to take this into account.
So it was a 6:30 anchorage, and then dinner. BBQ salmon, raw veggies, BBQ corn and potato salad under the stars. Love the adventure!
One more adventure during the night. Boats showed up with thousands of watts of lights, cruising the shoreline. All the guys were armed with compound bows. They were hunting bullfrogs! And around 3 am, it sounded like a war zone near us in the forest, with semi-automatic rifles blasting away. Apparently you can pit-lamp wild boar here.
Told you they love their hunting!
Smoke on the water - waking to a misty morning. Very pretty.
