Off to Memphis

This morning was a whirlwind of winterizing Eagle Heart, getting our suitcases from boat to dock, and tying off the boat between the docking pillars. This is quite different than our normal tie up, with fenders between us and the dock. You need lines tied on both sides of the boat, and then carefully tie them in a manner that the boat is in a spider web, holding in the center-not touching the dock anywhere. Needless to say, we both were soaked, doing this in the 80 degree heat at 9 in the morning.
After having cold, refreshing showers we headed off to Memphis!
Upon arriving at Memphis, the first thing we did is head to a museum. This is not my usual destination, but Susan wanted to see the "Pink Palace". The innovator of the first modern grocery store chain in America (Piggly Wiggly) had huge success and starting building a mansion out of pink marble. Unfortunately for him, he had taken his company public, and stock sharks engineered a way to drive the stock price down, buy up the stocks from the now bankrupt owner, and flip the stock at a huge profit. He was forced to give away the nearly finished mansion. The city turned it into a natural history museum.
In the evening cruising around Beale Street is the main attraction. This is the home of blues, with greats like Elvis, BB King, Aretha Franklin, and W C Hayes. There are many bars on this street that offer venues for the up and coming singer to lay down the tunes!
The picture is of Beale Street at night.
I am loading pictures to the gallery tonight. Last nights upload did not work. I think to many folks on internet at the marina!
