End of the “Ditch’
29 January 2020 | Kingfisher Marina, Demopolis Alabama
John Robin | 55 degrees and a bit of rain
Today we arrived at Demopolis, Alabama, which is the end of the Tennessee - Tombigbee Waterway. This waterway was only completed in 1985 after digging and shoring up 253 miles of waterway connecting a number of smaller rivers together, and digging 125 miles of canals.
Now we join the Black Warrior waterway Until Mobile, Al.
The last trip down 2 years ago in October, we noted how little wildlife we viewed on the rivers. This year even less was seen, as the Alligators are now in hibernation. There were hardly any birds visible either, which we found odd. I guess they went south for the winter also.
We are leaving tomorrow, as we have now fuelled, purchased groceries and topped up the water. Going to keep driving south until I get to wear shorts on deck!
The picture today shows that we are having fun, but dressed for skiing, not cruising!
