Last Lock - for a while

73 more miles of the Black Warrior waterway under our belts! We are now at mile 52, before entering Mobile Bay. Things have changed for us now; after Coffeeville lock the waters are now tidal. That means we have to think of water going up and down, as well as current. In the next few days, weather will also become a bigger factor in cruising on the ocean. On the rivers, the big weather worries are fog and thunderstorms. Winds does not really play a factor, as you will not get waves on the river. That of course changes on the ocean. Now wind is a huge factor, as well as current and tide. If they are going in the same direction, you get swells, and in different directions large waves with a very short period between crests will build. That means you get the heck pounded out of you. Those days, we just roll over and go back to sleep!
The weather is in the low 50's right now, with lots of drizzle. Every 50 miles south it gets a bit warmer. Let's keep going south!
Noel was able to purchase 2 passes for the Olympic Basketball tournament in Victoria. We are looking forward to seeing a lot of the top players in the NBA, playing. Living on Vancouver Island, it is difficult to see sports of this calibre.
The picture today is of Susan smiling as we travel through the last lock on the rivers. We have not really counted, but I figure we are 250 + locks in our voyages. Getting good at it!
