Interesting trip day

03 September 2022 | Mackinaw City, Michigan
John Robin | Sunny and 70
We left Drummond Island at 0630. I had my alarm set for that time, but Mike and Betche have bought into the calm cruising mornings and were up at 6! So I jumped out of bed, got dressed and we left. Coffee underway. FANTSTIC. I love the sunrises and calm seas at daylight. We got 2 hours of glassy sea cruising before Mr. 💨 Wind woke up. Then we experienced our normal 15 mph winds, on the bow for 2 hours, then the winds built to 25 mph gusts, so it became interesting. At that point, I must have missed the weather memo, because the cloud cover dropped to 1 foot, which meant dense fog for a hour. No problem, we have radar and gps, but are in one of the busiest shipping channels in the Great Lakes. Got to look at a lot of freighters on radar!
Fortunately, because of the early start, we just arrived at the Lee of Mackinaw Island. That meant that now the island was sheltering us from the seas until we arrived at Mackinaw City, just the way we planned it. 😃

We are still hampered with the damage caused by glancing off a rock at Little Current.
Just a sidebar, there are a lot of propeller repair shops up here. The glaciers left a lot of rock land mines in the North Channel! I decided to do a dive and see what damage had occurred. I have not done this the last two days, as the currents were around 3 knots, and the water about 55 degrees F. Now at Macinaw, it is a balmy 65 and no current. I don't have any dive gear, but my trusty mask, so a good wake up dive! 🥶 I found two of the 4 blades bent over at the tips where they glanced of the Laurentian Shield 🪨. With a 12 inch crescent wrench I was able to take a lot of the curl out this bent ladies, so hopefully will remedy some of the vibration, until haul-out, and proper repair completed.
We are supposed to have 4 foot seas tomorrow, which by my formula of:
4 foot x 2 /1.73+1= a shitty day?! We are staying in port and chillin 😎 tomorrow!
