Photo: The not so friendly Australian wildlife...
We don't think this year can ever be beaten. We decided to get married, then we spent a wonderful year in Australia, mainly in remote locations that even Australians rarely frequent.
Our big day at the alter was the 8th of January, then we headed back to Darwin. Magical Darwin, the frontier town on the northern edge of the largest, wildest wilderness this earth will ever see in our esteemed opinion. From Darwin we crossed the top of Australia eastwards to the Torres Straits, then down the Queensland coast inside the Great Barrier Reef. Heading against the southeasterly trade winds, it was extremely tough going. Eventually we made Brisbane, then crossed the Tasman Sea to New Zealand. That too was a tough crossing, but we safely made New Zealand in eleven days.
There, waiting for us, we're our wonderful English friends, Robert & Jill onboard
Fat Annie. Then began our eighteen months in this amazing country...
This post describes our year on the boat during 2011, part of the 'Where Are We Now' section of our website.
