Guest Blog: Cruising with the Baars' as seen through the eyes of Remco and Margot...

Wednesday morning we awoke still a little sleepy. It was a bumpy night and the winds had picked up. So sleeping was a little difficult on Eira. Paul met the supervisor who was working on the development on West Caicos. He gave us a tour of the island and took us to where they are going to build a Ritz Carlton and condos. The ride was a little bumpy and hilly and the boys loved it because we got to ride in the back of a pick up truck. He took us to Iron beach where all of the shells were fossilized. It is was amazing. The waves were huge and came crashing up on the cliffs. One of them soaked Remco. Next we went to a Lake Catherine. We were't sure what to expect, but the lake was a clear blue but I don't think you would want to do much swimming. Apparently, there is a vortex in the middle of the lake that connects to the ocean and it keeps Lake Catherine full.We tried to get John and Daniel to try it out, but Val didn't think it was such a good idea. We were able to cross it because in the 1700's the English settlers built a dirt bridge across the lake where they would cross to the other side to have access to the salt beds. We also saw the ruins of their houses. The cotton they planted was still sprouting cotton. The boys picked some to bring back to Eira. We ended our day with another sun downer and had delicious conch chowder that Val made.=
