Hellooo Everyone! We have been very busy and I have neglected updating the sailblog. All is well aboard Eira and we are enjoying the lush tropical island of Dominica. We spent 4 days in the city of Portsmoth, located on the northern end of this volcanic island. Dominica is green, green, green and most everything grows here. We took a tour around the island and nearly every tree produces something edible or a beautiful flower! Manoges are in season now, bananas, plantains, guava,pineapple, melon, soursop, cocoa, coffee etc... We cut off cinamon from the bark of a cinamon tree, also got fresh bay leaves, nutmeg, cashews, lemon greass the list goes on!! It is a beautiful island and we have had fun exploring it.

We took a canoe ride down the Inidan River into the tropical rainforest and the dense vegetation formed a canopy over our heads with vines hanging down and a variety of birds singing and iguanas climbing out on the tree branches! This is another site where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed. Johnny Depp stayed on a yacht anchored out and the movie "bought the river" for a day inorder to do the fimling, they built a set along the river banks. The Black Pearl was also here for the filming.

The beaches are black sand due to the volcano and the water is crystal clear. We also went to a volcano crater and the boys had the pleasure of smelling the sulfur, which is like rotten eggs and the water was red. The ground was bubbling with cold water, not hot. This was a Cold Soufrie.
