Turtles

This morning we took a trip over to see the Turtle Sanctuary. Mr King started this 11 years ago and he is trying to help the Hawksbill and Green Turtles continue to thrive and reproduce. He collects the turtle eggs from the beaches and will bring the baby turtles back to the sanctuary and keep them there until they are 4 years old and then release them into the ocean. They have a better survival rate this way. We learned so many interesting facts about turtles! Did you know that turtles can live to be 200 years old? They reproduce at the age of 25 and lay up to 200 eggs at one time and can do this year after year. The Sanctuary has different pools for the turtles based on their ages and there is also a "hospital" for the ones which are injured. They will fight with each other just like all brothers and sisters! The turtles main predators are man and shark. So there you have your Turtle Lesson for the day. Mr King has a pet turtle named Busy Body and he likes to get his back scratched! We went to the Sanctuary with Triumph of Hope (Philip,Lisa,Leah and Josh) and Dreamweaver. I went to the fruit market today and purchased a stalk of bananas for $8. We have it hanging under the bimini and they are all green now and should turn within the next week! Daniel asked me, "Why did you buy a stalk, Mom?" My reply, "Because I can!" Also went by the bakery to pick up a couple of loaves of bread. We will leave for the Tobago Cays in the morning and there are no stores there. This afternoon Menno pulled the kids behind the dinghy on a knee board! Great fun! Another "kid boat" came in so Daniel went over to meet them and invite them to the beach to play. The boys are great at meeting new people, they waste no time in going up to another boat and getting to know the kids on board.
