We left Hope Town and continued our journey south through the Sea of Abaco and onto Little Harbour. We had both fishing poles out in hopes of catching dinner. Zing! All we pulled in was a very BIG barracuda! yuck! It is not good eating and the large ones may carry cigtaura which is a bacteria the fish get from eating coral and coral fish. Plus this barracuda had very big teeth and I did not want him in MY boat!
Little Harbour is just that- a little harbour!There are no stores, trash drop off, laundry, restaurants or even electricity( everyone has a generator and they either make their own water or all have cisterns-collect rain water). There is one Pub- Petes Pub- and it is a small rustic beach bar with sand floor and thatched roof. They do serve a very powerful rum drink similar to the Mai Tai at the Tiki Bar in Solomons Island! Some of the local young 'uns had caught a lemon shark the day before so that was on the menu! We had sharkbites as an appetizer and they were tender and delicious! The boys were very entertained by the story of how these "kids" caught the shark the previous day!
There were also some great caves in the anchorage which the boys explored. Mom stayed in the dinghy and enjoyed the sunshine! They found "owl spit balls" which are balls of undigested food that the owls do not eat-such as bits of mice and other stuff- yummy! The caves are home to Screech Owls and we heard them screeching every night!
