Steve
Currently E Asia is in the second inter-monsoon of the calendar year with the next season of more reliable prevailing winds from the Northeast Monsoon but likely to start in late Nov or early Dec. The Madden Julian Oscillation drives the intensity of local weather.
I have to study a bit of that in the days to come...cause I haven't a clue!
We left Koh Samui on 10th Oct and after 59hrs and 329Nm we arrived in Turtle Bay of Pulau Redang. The weather forecasts we received were quite inaccurate after 24hrs but fortunately we didn't have any severe weather. We motored for some time after leaving Samui and had reasonable winds (15-25kts) toward Redang. It was squally at times but we managed to dodge most, use some to our wind advantage and washed the boat with others.
We will check-in into Malaysia in another 2 days as its off-season here and thus immigration is only open a few days a week.
