At anchor that evening in Isle Ornsay, I got in touch with my friend Tim, who was due to charter a boat out of Oban the following week. We’d planned to catch up and sail in company when they came north through the Kyles. That evening Tim revealed that a) they weren’t charting from Oban but from Croabh - a tidal gate further south; and b) they were no longer planning to come north of the Kyles.
So I messaged Kate and Asher yet another change of plans!
On Friday I headed south around Ardnamurchan - the western most point of the British mainland. Yet again, a flat calm so I motored the whole way, but thankfully in good visibility.
For the night, I anchored in Loch Drumbuie, or Loch na Droma Buidhe. This is an almost totally enclosed pool by the entrance to the much larger Loch Sunart. The entrance to Loch Drumbuie is about 50m wide, with rocks both sides, so a tad nervous making but once inside the shelter is complete - as is the peace and quiet and absence of connectivity! The only noise was the motors and anchor winches of a few other yachts, and then the occasional honk of a seal. Wonderful.
