Shopping in Vaileka

Siti and Elisabeth gave us a lift to the mainland for shopping (they go every Saturday) and we shared a taxi from the quay into town (Vaileka). On Google earth it looked very small but although we could not see many houses there it had quite a busy shopping centre with two supermarkets a host of small shops and a busy market. It had everything we needed apart from somewhere to fill our gas cylinders. Chris managed to get his watch repaired in the corner of a shop selling oil lamps, ropes, kettles and other interesting bits and pieces. The busy bus station was served by a selection of stalls selling the usual garish sweets and snacks so I managed to get some bara again as well as try out some other strange ones. You get 4 for 50c (about 20p) so it didn't break the bank! There were also barrow boys here outside the supermarkets waiting to ferry your purchases to the bus or taxi. We had a successful shop so will stay another week if we can eek out the cooking gas.
