Passage
13 November 2018 | Marsden Cove Marina
Penny
The waiting for the weather paid off and we had quite a good passage, although that did not stop me being seasick for the first couple of days. We cleared out of New Caledonia on Wednesday 30th October but because of holidays did not leave untill 6th. We spent most of this time in the Marina as there did not appear to be any pressure on berths and it allowed us to keep batteries fully charged and get lat minute fresh fruit. We anchored overnight at Ile Uere giving us an easy start the following day. We left the Amodee Pass at 1100 hrs doing 7knt in good sailing conditions, Chris was unwise enough to remark that if it carried on the same we would do the passage in 5 days and not need the fuel. By 9th we were near but east of Norfolk Island so no anchoring off Bates Mountain. The swell was coming from the south, and we could see heavy cloud ahead. Predict wind showed a disturbance to west of NZ giving us strong headwinds and heavy swell so we altered course to stay out of the way. This resulted in us having to supplement sail with engine for a while so we did use a bit of fuel after all. We hove to overnight on the 12th to get some rest and arrived Marsden Marina on the 13th where we had a fast and painless clearance through customs and biosecurity allowing us to move into our waing berth by the afternoon.
