Kauri Forest Walk
09 December 2018 | Route 309
Penny
At about 8km along the 309 Road, the Kauri Grove is a good place for a short walk. We had the morning at the Waterworks and this was a conveniently near walking track. This group of Kauri trees feature 13 massive specimens and twin Kauri with a raised wooden walkway around the largest. The walking track starts on the opposite side of the road at the car park and takes you through typical New Zealand forest to the Kauri trees on a well formed gravel track with footbridges and board walks in places along the track. On the day we visited there was a ranger on duty supervising the shoe cleaning operations to try and prevent Kauri Dieback disease spreading to the area.
