Okay so a quick update on our status.

Got very promising calls from two headhunters this week who have positions that I am both qualified for and interested in.

Shortly after I made our last post I was shopping for that 3HM35 repower. I LOVE the idea of a newer quieter, smoother running, more fuel efficient motor that is twice as powerful as our loud monster. However, I also love the idea of actually getting across the pacific next year. Repowering would require repropping, and a haul out. not to mention a LOT of work. Even a rebuilt 3HM35 would result in us spending at least $10,000. If we spent that kind of money we'd have to work past the weather window for the crossing. We have finite time constraints on this whole plan and so a repower really isnt in the cards for us.

More importantly after a 5 minute google search Kristina found us a used head in Canada. It was rebuilt 250 hours ago. Comes with everything above the head gasket (2 injectors, valve assemblies, valves, etc etc etc) and apears to be in excellent shape. The guy sold it to us for $500 ($600 with shipping and handling) and it should be here next week sometime.

In the meantime we're eating a hefty marina fee but we dont mind. Its calm the air conditioning is keeping us sane and we've met some delightful canadians (our slip neighbors) who are new to this whole world of keel boat ownership and cruising san carlos.

Meeting them has allowed us to decompress a bit. We've gone on a few shore dives with them and introduced them to the joys of spearfishing and freediving while ourselves getting re-aquainted with our old passions. We've actually been sailing a couple times even thanks to the fact that their boat actually works ! ;)

Anyway, more on that later, just wanted to post a quick completely unedited and unspellchecked update so folks would know we're not repowering.

Till next time!
