Underway - Heading South
19 April 2014 | Marco River
Sunny finally
Left Cayo Costa about 9:15 and headed down the Intercoastal. When I passed South Seas Plantation on the end of North Captiva, I could see large waves breaking on the Gulf beach. It was just a slight chop on the waterway and the wind was either from the starboard or stern so it was easy sailing. Averaged close to 5 knots so it was a quick trip to Fort Myers Beach arriving about 3 PM. I decided to take a mooring due to the winds forecast for the evening.
It is 5 PM and it is blowing 10-15 with gusts to 25 MPH so shelter is nice. The Gulf was too rough to go any further and the inside route to Naples is too shallow for Serenity.
Easter Sunday. Left Fort Myers Beach and motored to Marco Island. No wind to speak of despite forecasts for 15-20. Oh well, got 5 gallons of fuel and anchored for the night. Tomorrow to Little Shark River where there is no WiFi or Cell phone coverage. Tuesday will be off to Key West if the weather is good or Marathon if not as good.
Paul, the wind generator seems to be working as well as it ever has. Generating about 3 amps at 10 mph and 10 amps at 25. Guess cleaning the brushes on the pivot worked. Haven't seen any noticeable out of the new solar panel but it has been cloudy most of the time.
Dean's birthday today so I'll toast him with a glass of wine at dinner. Whoops, need to get something out of the freezer. Bye
