A view of the marina and our neighbors on Palmyra -- Corneel and Stephanie from Queensland. You can see Dancing Bear behind their boat. They're on a sailing holiday from their jobs at the Central Queensland University. Unfortunately their Perkins 4-108 (same engine I have on Evening Ebb) lost oil pressure so they're waiting for a mechanic to take a look at it. They lost the engine while they were out in an anchorage. Cornell strapped their outboard to the rudder and they were able to use the outboard engine to get into the slip in the marina. Definitely wins a MacGyver award. Here's a picture:
Look what I found today:
There's a synagogue in Noumea and they are holding Yom Kippur services. 1830 Friday evening for Kol Nidre and 0900 Saturday morning. Of course, now that I have services to attend, I took a look at my wardrobe and only found t-shirts, polo shirts, shorts, and a sulu and tupenu (which I don't think anyone wears on this island). So, I had to find a proper shirt and pants.
As I was walking around town after dropping off my laundry, I saw this shop, Stockman, and met Guillaume the owner. He customizes shirts, but it was a nice plain white cotton shirt with a collar that caught my eye. He ironed it for me and it should be OK.
Found a pair of pants at this shop. Rachel was very helpful and we had a very nice talk with my little bit of French and her little bit of English (I think her English was better than my French).
It's been nice to be back on a French island. This feels a bit more European than Tahiti which was more tropical. Even though it was a short trip from Vanuatu, it was tiring. Slept well with a blanket since it was only 17 degrees last night.
Here are the updated statistics for the trip: 9385 miles, 13 countries, 23 islands, two oceans, one canal, twelve time zones, one date line, 56 books, 15 audiobooks, and 87 dives.
