16 May 2015 | BVI yacht charters road town tortola
clouds slowly burning off after morning rain
A bit gray this morning listening to roosters and the splash from diving pelicans. Odd to sleep all night on a boat tied up to a dock. Only once did I wake up in a panic wondering who was on watch and why was the boat moving the way it was and were we alright. By the time I made up to the salon then out onto the aft deck I realized all was fine and we were where we were supposed to be and all I really needed to do was to go back to my bunk and fall asleep. Hard to believe that this delivery is done and later this morning I'll be leaving the boat and taking a ferry to St John's to meet Merrill and Mary on s/v Serenity. One night in St Johns and then back to sea heading north to Block Island perhaps by way of Bermuda again.
After a day of organizing the boat and helping Reed we took a cab to Nanny Cay Marina. Saw a few of my friends. Dwayne and Dolce were still in Peglegs while Claire and Devon were still at the other restaurant. Hugs and smiles from all of them. Saw Kevin from Quantum sails. Since it was late didn't see any friends at the tiki bar or anyone else while I showed Reed around the marina. We had a nice dinner: bourbon chicken, duck, mango slaw, and key lime pie.
It's nice to be back in the BVI where it's all very familiar. Our first cab driver played basketball and dreamed of playing in Chapel Hill. He went to a summer camp with Dean Smith and played for the national teams of Anguila and the BVI. Lots of people out and about on a Friday night and there was a large political rally alongside the road with candidates making their pitch. Lots of Saragasso grass in the water. It's been a problem for boats since it gets sucked into the water intakes for air conditioners, generators, and engines. The grass also washes up on shore and creates quite a stench as it decomposes. People were also complaining of all the Sahara dust they'd had this winter and spring. We thought it was quite hazy when we came in, but were told that yesterday was quite clear.
